Self Identity Development Of Francesca In The Novel “Saving Francesca” By Melina Marchetta (Viewed From Psychosocial Theory)

This research tells about how the development of the identity of the main character in the novel named Francesca Spinelli. What Francesca initially did not really think about life around her so that over time Francesca became a more mature person, the development of Francesca's identity was well formed influenced by the surrounding social environment. The purpose of this study is to find out how the process of developing self-identity in the main characters in the novel "Saving Francesca" by Melina Marchetta. The methods used are qualitative and descriptive methods. The researcher used the psychosocial theory, this theory discussed the development of a person's personality developing influenced by social groups around her. The two data collection used by researchers are primary data and secondary data, primary data, namely from the novel used by researchers and secondary data, namely from several books, journals and articles.
Based on the research that has been done, it shows that there are two statuses of the development of self-identity and two factors that influence self-identity used in the process of developing self-identity. The status of the development of self-identity consists of diffusion identity and achievement identity. Factors that influence selfidentity are family factors and reference groups. And from this statement that makes the identity development of the main character develops into a more mature person.
