This study aims to find the politeness strategies contained in the film Fatherhood.
The theory used is the theory of Brown and Lavinson as a research reference. The
method used is descriptive qualitative to describe the results of the research. The subject
of this research is taken from the utterances contained in the film Fatherhood, where the
speech of each character is taken as data. The key instrument of research is the researcher
herself. Data collection techniques were obtained by watching and reading film scripts.
Data analysis techniques through the Miles & Huberman technique: data reduction, data
display, drawing conclusions/verification. The results of the study it was found that there
are four politeness strategies contained in the film Fatherhood, namely; Bald on record
strategy 20 times, positive politeness strategy 37 times, negative politeness strategy 17
times, and off record strategy 14 times. The most common strategy found in Fatherhood
is Positive Politeness and the least found strategy is Off record strategy. The use of the
strategy is also based on the environment and the people they talk to
