In The Novel “Perfect” By Cecelia Ahern (Viewed From Structural
Theory), (Supervised by Bakhtiar Majid and Indra Purnawan
Panjaitan).
This study discusses the struggle against tyranny in the novel
“Perfect,” as described by the main character, Celestine North. This
research focuses on the main character, Celestine North, who struggles
against tyranny. This study aims to discover how tyranny is shown in the
novel and how the main character struggles against tyranny in the novel
“Perfect” by Cecelia Ahern.
A structural theory and descriptive method are used to analyze the
characteristics of tyranny and Celestine North’s struggle against tyranny
based on the novel.
The characteristics of tyranny found in this study include disharmony
and desire. As the prohibitions against flawed, the researcher found
several sections, such as the prohibition of going out at night, gathering
together, employing flawed, using the name of flawed parents, and
drinking alcohol. Meanwhile, Celestine’s form of struggle against tyranny is
hiding from Crevan and revealing Crevan’s secrets. Celestine is not
obeying the rules made by Crevan and chooses to run away from the
whistleblower because if Celestine does not avoid it, his secret of
Celestine will be destroyed by Crevan by removing the personal brand, the
sixth brand. Celestine also reveals Crevan’s secret, the sixth brand
Crevan has done to her, by looking for a video of the branding process by
Crevan by asking for help from her sister, friends, and boyfriend. Celestine
contacted the reporting witnesses and the judge to help her uncover
Crevan’s secret because some of them witnessed and had video evidence
of the branding experienced by Celestine.
