This study aims to determine the competence of second semester students in
composing complex sentences. This research took place at the English
Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and
Education, Khairun University Ternate. This study uses descriptive qualitative
methods to explain and categorize the competence of second-semester
students of the English Language Education Study Program in composing
complex sentences. Researchers collect data by giving students tests of the
ability to construct complex sentences in English, data taken by researchers in
the classroom and documentation. Based on the research above, researchers
found as many as ten students who already had the ability to compose
complex sentences, nine students who did not have the ability to compose
complex sentences, and one student who did not have the ability to compose
complex sentences at all. In summary, the results of the researchers' analysis
found that students in the second semester of class A had the same ability to
construct complex sentences.
