ANALYSIS OF THE DETECTIVE FORMULA IN THE NOVEL “DIGITAL FORTRESS” by DAN BROWN (VIEWED FROM CAWELTI THEORY)

This study aims to identify the detective formula in the novel Digital
Fortress and the characters and relationship built in the novel Digital Fortress
It is hoped that this research can assist researchers and readers in analyzing
the novel "Digital Fortress" and can be a reference for other researchers at
the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Khairun University.
This study uses a descriptive analysis method, which describes the
data narratively and then analyzes it based on the concepts used. Data
analysis techniques based on reading comprehension by classifying,
obfuscating and explaining. The data collection technique in this study was
based on the data source, namely Dan Brown's Novel Digital Fortress
The result of this study, the researcher find that cawelti theory affected
in the novel Digital Fortress, strating with the unsolved crime where the
TRANSLTR cannot crack the algorithm made by Ensei Tandako and Pattern
of actions Susan Fletcher become a detective, and the the clue of new
algorithm Ensei Tandako made pass-key and he gave one to her partner and
the investigation of existence North Dakota and the reason Ensei Tandako
made the Digital Fortress, and the last is denoument, the criminal found,the
setting in Crypto room and Node 3. The second result is about the character
and relationship built in the novel affected with cawelti theory.
